Dr. Raushannah Johnson-Verwayne
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
MEET Dr. RJ
Hello! I’m Dr. Raushannah Johnson-Verwayne, a licensed clinical psychologist and the owner of Standard of Care Psychological Services. I’m so excited that you’ve taken the first step to better days ahead. Whether you are looking for help for yourself, a student, or for a loved one, you’re in the right place.
I am committed to providing top tier and high value services to people of color who have suffered in silence for too long. Historically BIPOC communities in America have found it difficult to trust the mental health field due to racism, discriminatory practices, and criminalization of normal behavior particularly in black boys.
We can no longer ignore healthcare disparities and the impact of faulty systems. The good news is that together, we are making progress because wellness belongs to all of us.
I’m looking forward to being a part of your wellness journey.
Dr. Raushannah Johnson-Verwayne, also known as “Dr. RJ” is a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of Standard of Care Psychological Services, in Atlanta, GA. Dr. RJ integrates self-care with education of the brain and body connection and explains neuroscience in a relatable manner. Whether it’s speaking at a women’s conference, hosting a corporate retreat, or attending a grassroots community service event, Dr. RJ is passionate about wellness and self-care. Her latest endeavor focuses on helping black women executives and physicians eliminate burnout, anxiety, and stress.
Dr. RJ is the "go-to" professional for any and all topics pertaining to mental health. She is the host of Wellness Wednesday for KPRS Hot 103 Jamz in Kansas City, and has authored several blogs and articles for a variety of publications.
Dr. RJ also has a special interest in treating trauma in victims of child sex trafficking, and has partnered with two local Senators to eradicate this widespread atrocity. In 2015, Dr. RJ was appointed by Chairman John Eaves of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners to play an integral role on a task force to end the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children. The task force has had monumental success and was applauded during a publicly broadcasted board meeting by the Board of Commissioners for their work.
Dr. RJ is known for her service in the community. She has served on a panel moderated by former Mayor Shirley Franklin on the topic of child sex trafficking, appeared as a presenter to train over 100 Gwinnett County school counselors and educators about childhood trauma, served as a co-moderator with Senator Donzella James to discuss Amendment 1 (Opportunity School District), and served as the keynote speaker on a program for Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention.

Dr. RJ is also a certified Zumba instructor and is passionate about teaching the importance of the mind, body, spirit connection as it relates to total wellness.
Although she absolutely loves her career, her ultimate joy comes from her faith in God, and her love for her husband and their two children.
As a Black woman, Dr. RJ recognizes the unique impact of stress on her demographic. Author of the number one new release in clinical psychology, Stress, Lies and Vacancy: The Self Care Guide to Refill Your Empty Vessel and of the recently published book, Overwhelmed: The Self-Care Guide for College Students, Dr. RJ’s experiences and transparency provides self help for people of color to reduce common stressors in their lives that have long term effects on the body and brain.
Dr. RJ’s favorite quote is “Self-care isn’t selfish. You can’t serve from an empty vessel”.
The Self-Care Doc
My mission is to facilitate self-preservation of women of color through the power of self-care and to get rid of the myth of the Black Superwoman. I’m all for our black girl magic taking on the world but not to the detriment of our souls, health, spirit, and well-being. True wellness is a synthesis of mind, body, and spirit.
